The Psy-Changeling Series by Nalini Singh

The world:

Nalini Singh has created a fantastic, unique world with a mix of characters you can’t help but fall in love with. In this series you get introduced to a world that is populated by three races – the Psy, a powerful race of humans who have incredible powers of the mind, the Changelings, shapeshifters, and then just the plain old humans. These three races live together, but at the same time very much apart. The Psy, in an effort to eradicate an unavoidable predisposition to violence, have embraced Silence, a protocol that removes all emotions. But, emotions are part of human nature and the Psy race soon discovers that Silence is going to fall. The series begins with one Psy, Sascha Duncan on her way to “rehabilitation”— the complete psychic removal of everything she ever was. But when Sascha meets leopard changeling Lucas Hunter everything changes, and the world of the Psy and Changelings begin to collide.

What I thought:

My overall rating:  4 Stars

I picked up the first book in this series and proceeded to read each and every one, one after the other. I completely immersed myself in this world for a couple of weeks and enjoyed having some many books to read all at once. Each book in the series focuses on one couple. Not all of them are Psy/Changeling mixes and I think that gives the series more depth, however I do confess that I was a little disappointed by some of the matches, just because you kind of hope for the power of an interrace mix. But overall I give the series a solid 4 stars. I really LOVED some of the books (most of them actually), while some of them fell a little flat, but the world is so phenomenal that you get caught up in the amazingness of the stories. I really found myself wanting to be a part of this world and could definitely enjoy my own dominant changeling 😉

I liked that the books switched between different POVs, however I didn’t get a little frustrated at times. Just when the main story was getting to a good part, she would jump to a completely separate characters POV and at times I felt like some of the info was unnecessary. I will give Singh props for her ability to build suspense and sexual tension though.

The books all had great love stories and really got my blood pumping. I fell in love with almost all the male leads and could not wait to read about the side characters after each book. I really liked that even the “submissive” characters had backbone, and loved the brilliantly thought out structure of both the PsyNet and Changeling society. I would definitely recommend this series to all paranormal romance lovers and can honestly say that this is a totally unique look at shifters for those who love that genre too.
