So in the great tradition of TV, CBS has stolen yet another idea from literature and created the Supergirl TV series. One of the highest profile new series this coming season, Supergirl is changing CBS tradition and removing comedy from the Monday night schedule, with The Big Bang Theory being moved to put the new comic book hero in a primetime spot. We’re going to have to see how that’s going to affect The Big Bang Theory ratings. Fans can be loyal, but in the past moving shows to another timeslot has had catastrophic results.
The new series is set to begin in November and should have a well-rated pilot episode, but can it sustain a TV series the way Smallville did? With a new generation of viewers the outcome should be interesting. I’m also dying to see if they do episode crossovers with other superhero TV shows and if cousin Clark Kent (AKA Superman) will make an appearance.
The show stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers (AKA Supergirl) and the ‘first look’ trailer shows forgotten actress Calista Flockhart as the mean boss. What I find incredibly interesting is that IMDB lists Dean Cain as Fred Danvers, presumably Kara’s father, which is hysterical as he played Superman in the 90s TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
Once again, we have to wait in anticipation to see where this is gonna go. The ‘first look’ trailer looks interesting enough but since it’s quite long, I feel like I watched the entire first episode already.
